Repairing your Denso LA146600-7920 climate control assembly

The Denso LA146600-7920 climate control module is a highly sought-after component in the RV community. It was commonly used in Fleetwood motorhomes—and possibly other brands—built on Chevy chassis around the 2006–2007 model years.

Unfortunately, one of the most common failures with this unit comes from the rear plastic housing. Over time, the ABS plastic becomes brittle and eventually breaks apart, as shown in the picture below.

The rear housing’s primary function is to hold the rack-and-pinion gear assembly that controls the cable for the hot/cold air damper. When this piece fails, the entire climate control system becomes unusable.

The Problem

Denso no longer manufactures this part, making replacements hard to come by. While some RV salvage yards may have used assemblies available, they often cost $500 or more. Even then, you’re buying an old plastic housing that could fail just as quickly as your original.

The Good News: An Alternative

If your front in-dash control assembly shown above—the piece that holds the main circuit board and ribbon cable with the black rectangular plug—is still intact, you don’t need to replace the entire unit. Instead, you can purchase an aftermarket replacement rear housing and rebuild your existing module for a fraction of the cost.

As shown in the example below, a 3D-printed replacement housing provides a durable and cost-effective solution, allowing you to restore full functionality without paying salvage yard prices.
